Search Tips

How search works

The search bar in Easy Mail Archive runs a full-text search across message bodies and subjects. Type one or more keywords and press Enter. All keywords must appear in a message for it to show up in the results — there is no need to type "AND" between words.

For example, typing budget meeting returns messages that contain both "budget" and "meeting" somewhere in the text.

Exact phrases

Put quotes around words to search for an exact phrase. "quarterly report" only matches messages where those two words appear together in that order. Without quotes, the words could appear anywhere in the message independently.

Getting more precise results

The search bar handles keywords well, but if you need to narrow things down further, use the advanced filter panel. Click Advanced next to the search bar to get filter fields for:

  • Sender and recipient addresses
  • Subject line keywords
  • Date range
  • Message direction (inbound, outbound, or internal)
  • Attachment type (any, Word, Excel, PDF, Image)
  • Message size
  • Notes and Message-ID references

Filters and keywords work together. You can type a keyword in the search bar and set filters in the advanced panel at the same time — results must match everything.

See Advanced Search Filters for the full list of filter options.

Sorting results

By default, results are sorted by date with the newest messages first. You can also sort by size, sender, subject, attachment count, or direction using the sort dropdown above the results list.
