Searching for Attachments
Finding Emails with Attachments
Easy Mail Archive makes it simple to locate emails that contain file attachments. Whether you are looking for a specific document, spreadsheet, or image that was sent via email, the attachment search features help you find it quickly.
The most straightforward way to find emails with attachments is to use the Has attachment checkbox in the Advanced Search panel. When enabled, your search results will only include messages that have one or more attached files. This filter can be combined with any other search criteria to further narrow your results.
Searching by Attachment Name
If you know the name of the file you are looking for, you can enter it as a keyword in the search bar. The full-text search index includes attachment file names, so searching for something like report-2025.pdf or invoice will match emails where an attachment has that name or contains that word in its file name.
This is especially useful when you remember the document name but not who sent it or when. Simply type the file name (or part of it) into the search bar and the matching emails will appear in the results.
Searching by File Type
You can also search for attachments by their file type. Enter a common file extension as a keyword to find emails with that type of attachment. For example:
- Search for
pdfto find emails with PDF documents - Search for
xlsxorspreadsheetto find Excel files - Search for
jpgorpngto find image attachments - Search for
zipto find compressed archive files
Practical Examples
Here are a few common scenarios where attachment search is useful:
- Finding a contract: Combine
has:attachmentwith a keyword like "contract" and a sender filter to locate the specific email with the contract document. - Locating invoices: Search for
invoicewith the attachment filter enabled and a date range covering the relevant billing period. - Retrieving shared images: If someone sent you photos via email, enable the attachment filter and search for
jpgorphototo find them.
