Searching by Date Range

Using the Date Range Filter

Date range filtering is one of the most effective ways to narrow down search results, especially when you know the approximate time frame of the emails you need. In Easy Mail Archive, you can set a start date, an end date, or both to define exactly which time period you want to search.

To access the date filter, open the Advanced Search panel by clicking the "Advanced" button next to the search bar. You will see two date fields labeled From date and To date. Click on either field to open the date picker.

The Date Picker

The date picker provides a calendar view where you can select a specific date. Use the left and right arrows to navigate between months. You can also click the month/year header to switch to a year view for faster navigation when looking for emails from several months or years ago.

Once you select a date in the From date field, only emails sent on or after that date will appear in results. Similarly, selecting a To date will exclude any emails sent after that date. When both are set, only emails within the defined window are returned.

Common Date Range Scenarios

Here are some practical examples of how date range search can be used:

  • Compliance audits: Set the date range to match the audit period (e.g., the entire previous fiscal year) and combine with other filters to locate relevant correspondence.
  • Project research: If you know a project ran from March to June, set those dates to find all related emails without sifting through older or newer messages.
  • Recent emails: Set only a From date to something like "last Monday" to focus on recent activity without an upper bound.

Combining Dates with Other Filters

Date range filtering is most powerful when used alongside keywords and other advanced filters. For instance, you might search for emails containing "contract renewal" sent between October and December from a specific sender. This combination lets you pinpoint exactly the messages you need without manually scrolling through months of archived mail.

Keep in mind that the date filter uses the date the email was sent (as recorded in the message headers), not the date it was archived. This ensures your results match the actual timeline of the conversation.
