Downgrading Your Plan
How to Downgrade
If you no longer need the features of your current plan, you can downgrade to a lower tier. To downgrade your plan:
- Navigate to Settings > Billing
- Click Change Plan
- Select the lower plan you want to switch to
- Review the changes and any warnings about features you will lose
- Click Confirm Downgrade
When the Downgrade Takes Effect
Unlike upgrades, downgrades do not take effect immediately. Your current plan remains active until the end of your current billing period. On the next billing date, your account will switch to the new plan and you will be charged the lower rate going forward.
This means you continue to have access to all features of your current plan for the remainder of the billing cycle you have already paid for.
What Happens to Advanced Features
When you downgrade, features that are not included in your new plan will become unavailable:
Downgrading from Business to Starter
- Legal hold: Any active legal holds will remain in place, but you will not be able to create new legal holds or modify existing ones. Messages under legal hold will continue to be preserved.
- PDF signing: You will no longer be able to generate signed PDF exports of archived messages.
- API access: API keys will be deactivated and API requests will be rejected.
- User limit: If you have more than 50 active users, you will need to deactivate users to fall within the Starter limit before the downgrade takes effect.
Downgrading from Enterprise
If you are on an Enterprise plan with a custom agreement, please contact your account manager to discuss downgrading options.
Storage Considerations
When moving from Business (25 GB/license) to Starter (10 GB/license), your storage allocation per license decreases. This may increase your license count if storage is driving your billing. For example, if you use 200 GB of storage, you need 8 licenses on Business but 20 licenses on Starter. Review your storage usage in Settings > Billing before downgrading to understand the potential cost impact.
Canceling a Pending Downgrade
If you change your mind before the downgrade takes effect, you can cancel it:
- Go to Settings > Billing
- You will see a notice about your pending plan change
- Click Cancel Downgrade to remain on your current plan
